Color Club thermal polishes…

I recently picked up three of the new Color Club mood changing nail polishes from Rainbow Connection. I LOVE thermal polishes as they’re so much fun to apply, changing colour as they go onto the nail 🙂 These applied well, they have a creme finish but are not very streaky at all. However I ended up with a few shadowy patches (probably just my own dodgy application as I never leave enough time between coats with cremes) so I used three thin coats. All pictures are shown with top coat as I think it evens out any imperfections in cremes nicely.

The first polish is ‘Blue Skies Ahead’, which is blue in it’s warm state and purple in it’s cool state. The colour on the bottle shows much paler colours but the blue is much more a sky blue, and ties in better with the name.

In it’s cold state it is a lovely purple shade:

In it’s warm stage it is a lovely sky blue:

The second polish is ‘Happy Go Lucky’ a yellow-based peach when warm changing to a pink-based peach when cool. This was much closer to the bottle colour however the polish itself was still a little brighter. This combination of coours really reminded me of the inside and outside of a yummy, juicy peach!

In it’s cold state it is a lovely pink-toned peach:

In it’s warm state it is a yellow-toned peach:

The last polish that I bought is ‘Shine Theory’. This polish is a lime green when warm and changes to a darker green when cool. This polish, again, is not the same colours as the bottle. The lighter green is almost right but the darker green is nowhere near the blue-green on the bottle.

In it’s cold state it is a lovely mid green:

In it’s warm state it is a slightly neon green:

Ok then, thoughts on these polishes…

  • Colours: I love the colour combinations that have been chosen. The three that I chose are lovely, coordinating colours but stand out enough that the thermal change is clear to see.
  • Application: I am really bad at applying cremes as I just don’t leave long enough between the coats so I ted to get streaks, however, they are quite forgiving polishes so I would imagine that they would cover beautifully in two normal coats.
  • Formula: The formula of my bottles was a bit dodgy. There seemed to be a lot of ‘bits’ in the polish, like the pigment hadn’t been mixed in properly. I gave each a really good shake and even cleaned the brush off but there were still little ‘grains’ left on the nail that I could still see after applying topcoat.
  • Thermal: The thermal on these polishes seems to be very sensitive and fast to react. With thermals I tend to have a clear nail/tip colour divide as my nails are quite long, however, these seem to react with the slightest difference in temperature as one minute I have two tone nails and the next it is fully in the warm state. Heck, I can just breathe on them and they change colour! 🙂

My only disappointment with these polishes is that the colours are nothing like those shown on the bottle. At first glance you would think they were pastels and that is why I chose the colours that I did. It would be much better if you could see the colours that you were going to get BEFORE purchasing them.

I did enjoy playing around with these polishes and the only thing putting me off from buying more would be the formula problem with the graininess. I have bought a nail polish stirrer though, so I shall see if that helps. The colours are great though and they are fun to mess around with!

If you would like to try them for yourself then they are also available in the UK from Rainbow Connection and they retail at £8.50.

Which was your favourite of the polishes? Let me know in the comments below! Thanks for reading, ’til next time… x x
