What time is it…?

I made it a goal last year to try new UK indie polishes and happened across Danglefoot nail polish. Hayley, the maker, was close to re-opening her shop and mentioned an “Adventure Time” collection. Say what now? I am a massive nerd for Adventure Time. Who says cartoons are just for kids? I knew I had to get my hands on this collection and managed to get them all (and a few extras 😉) about 2 minutes after the shop opened. Just to warn you, I might get very fangirly and this may get very wordy!

For those of you that don’t know, Adventure Time is set on Earth, in a post-apocalyptic land called Ooo. All of the humans are gone except one (or are they?) and the world is filled with all manner of weird and wonderful creatures. Enter Finn, the human boy and Jake, his loyal dog-brother. In every episode they go off on a different adventure, slaying evil, collecting treasures and meeting new people. And Hayley captured some of the favourites in her collection.

First up is Marceline. Marceline Abadeer, or Marceline the Vampire Queen, is a human/demon hybrid who was bitten by a vampire in her teens and now survives by drinking the colour red. She is friends with Finn and Jake but loves to annoy them.

Hayley chose a perfect grey toned polish to match Marceline’s skin and gave it some silver microflakes and holo to add a bit of shimmer. This covers very well with one careful coat but my polish OCD means I did two plus top coat 😊 This really is a beautiful polish.

Next up we have Flame Princess. Real name, Phoebe, she overthrew her father to become ruler of the Fire Kingdom. She dated Finn once but they broke up when he tricked her. She has a fiery temper and almost destroyed the earth’s core when Finn kissed her. Exciting stuff!

I don’t normally go for reddy orange polishes but this is such a nice shade. It has a pinky sheen to it, with golden flakes and holo too. Again, this covered well with one careful coat but shown is two coats plus top coat. Flametastic!

Next we have my absolute favourite of the collection! Princess Bubblegum, also known as Peebs, PB, P Bubs or by her real name, Bonnibel, is the ruler of the Candy Kingdom. She is sweet and kind but is also a bit of a mad scientist. She creates her subjects, the candy people, in her lab. She is highly educated and cultured but still knows how to throw a mean party! She is the love interest of Finn but the feeling is not really mutual.

I love, love, LOVE this polish! Not only is it purple but it’s freaking thermal so it changes to pink when warm. Pink is my fave colour so it’s already a winner, but Hayley did a good job of matching the colours to PB’s dress. This is my first thermal polish and I had great fun running my hand under the taps at the kitchen sink to watch the colour change 😂

Here you can see the transition from purple ( cold state) through to pink (warm state). It is very reactive as you can see from the right pic, I was barely touching the cold bottle and the corners of my nails were starting to change. This is fun to wear and fun to put on as it starts changing as you apply it. I would recommend two coats with this polish, the coverage is great but the colours really stand out with two coats.

Who’s next? It’s Lumpy Space Princess. LSP (for short) is a princess from the kingdom of Lumpy Space. Simple, right?  She is feisty and full of attitude. She loves to party where she can “shake her lumps”. She can be very self-centred and acts like a typical teenage girl, bratty and overly dramatic.

Although not the “grape purple” colour of LSP, I think this is a good polish for her, it’s sassy with a sparkle. It is a silver, lilac and blue glitter mix with attitude, just like LSP. This covered perfectly with one coat plus a sponged coat but like most glitters it is very textured and top coat-thirsty, I gave it three good coats and it wasn’t smooth but looked good.

Four down, two to go. Lady Rainicorn, or Lady for short, is, well, a Rainicorn (a magical, rainbow-coloured, very long unicorn). She is Jake the dog’s girlfriend and Princess Bubblegum’s best friend and royal steed. She can fly and she speaks Korean, which Jake and Princess Bubblegum can apparently understand.

This is a fun polish. It is packed full of neon rainbow dots. I think this would look great as a one-coat topper to a white base but that is for another day! Again, one coat plus a sponged coat is all you need for full coverage and three coats of top coat *almost* smoothed it out. This would also be great as an accent nail for a summer rainbow mani.

Last, but by no means least is Crazy Ice King. Ice King started off as a regular guy called Simon. He bought a magical crown and was slowly turned insane by its ice magic. He was the main antagonist of the show and regularly fought with Finn and Jake, who would often try to halt his princess-stealing antics. He a wizened old wizard with a long white beard and hair and he wears nothing but his crown and a long blue robe.

Hayley captured the essence of the Ice King in this inky blue jelly base that is stuffed with multicrome flakies. It can look a little greeny-blue but I think that is down to the flakies being in a blue base that is making the polish shine with a green hue. No complaints from me, its a perfect polish! Two coats were enough to get this looking tip-top and, as always, I finished it off with a top coat.

Well then, overall, I am very impressed with my first experience of Danglefoot nail polishes. The formula is fab, the coverage is spot-on and the colours and names are varied and imaginative. I would recommend this collection to any Adventure Time fans, my favourite is definitely “Princess Bubblegum” closely followed by “Marceline”. If you would like to check out Hayley’s polishes you can find them here: Danglefoot Nail Polish

I have a few more Danglefoot polishes to swatch, which I will try to do soon.  Thanks for reading! x
