‘Ard As Nails Collaboration – The Cornetto Trio

Hi guys and welcome back! I’m super excited to show you my very first collaboration collection today! When I approached Kat at ‘Ard As Nails about making me my very own trio of polishes inspired by The Cornetto Trilogy, little did I know that she was a fan too and that would start the process of her releasing a set of polishes that I had designed! There has been much squealing from me over the months (I’m a great big nerd and nerd polishes make my heart sing!) and I’m so happy with how they’ve turned out, Kat has done a fantastic job 🙂

If you’re not familiar with The Cornetto Trilogy (what is wrong with you? Go watch them! :D) it is a trio of British comedies directed by Edgar Wright and written by Wright and Simon Pegg. They are all about typical British humour, poking fun at British views and stereotypes.

First up, of course, is a polish inspired by Shaun of the Dead and is called ‘You’ve Got Red on You’. This is one of my all-time favourite zombie movies! The red comes from the blood and gore of the film; in the polish it’s represented by a red jelly base which is then full of colour change flakes and a sprinkling of holo.

I used three coats for my swatches (plus top coat) but if you have shorter nails you will proabaly find that two coats is more than enough.

It also looks gorgeous matte! My matte top coat went a little squiffy though so sadly my pic is not the best, all I’ll say is try it for yourself, you’ll love the way it turns out!

The second polish in our trio is called ‘Mornin’ Angle’ and is inspired by the film Hot Fuzz. My husband and I are one of those really sad (super cool) nerdy couples who go around quoting lines from films/TV shows/memes to each other all day, so when I thought of Hot Fuzzz this was the first line that popped into my head! The blue colour of this polish/film is taken from it being based on the police service of Sandford, Gloucestershire. I asked Kat to make it a police blue which the changes to a mid-blue (more like the ice cream colour) when warm. Thermal polish, yay! It also has tiny silver flakes in it which remind me of the bage on the police helmets.

My swatches show two coats and top coat. It’s very reactive (as are all of Kat’s thermal polishes) hence my wet hand in the pic, it kept changing as I was trying to take a picture! 😀

(Left to right: cool, transition, warm)

Again, it looks lovely matte though, doesn’t everything? 🙂

The final polish in the trio is based on The World’s End and is called ‘The Golden Mile’. Somewhere between a Russian and Hunter green, it represents the extraterrestrial aspect of the film. It also has gold flakes, added to represent The Golden Mile, the pub crawl from the film in which Pegg and Frost (and Martin Freeman, Paddy Considine and Eddie Marsan) attempt to drink at every pub in their home town in the midst of an alien invasion. As a bonus, although there are no blue flakes in the polish, in certain lights/angles it looks as if it has blue flecks which I think ties in nicely with the blue blood of the invading aliens!

My swatches here show two coats and top coat and below, with matte top coat.

So there you have it, my very first collaboration! A massive thank you to Kat for giving me the opportunity to do this and for patiently mixing me up the “right shade of red”!

If you ordered one of the recent Surprise Boxes from ‘Ard As Nails you may have received one of these polishes already! If so, please let me know what you think in the comments 🙂 If you weren’t lucky enough to grab a Surprise Box then the trio is available now at www.ardasnails.co.uk
